2016 Mazda CX-9: It’s Finally Back

While it might not be immediately noticeable, this all-new second generation Mazda CX-9 is actually shorter than the previous generation, with a longer wheelbase as well. The rear passenger door openings were also made larger to accommodate easier entry and exit to the backseats.
These new dimensions mean the 2016 Mazda CX-9 wears a much more muscular and slightly masculine outer shell, however, all that toning has actually caused a bit of weight-loss for the SUV. The lightness of the all-new CX-9 means increased performance along with better fuel economy. There’s also added sound-deadening materials that result in a much quieter cabin, as well.
More Space, More Power
Mazda decided to reintroduce a turbocharged engine under the hood of the 2016 CX-9. Along with the spool, you’ll find a SKYACTIV-G 2.5L under the hood. Said engine pushes out 250 horsepower (with premium fuel; 227 ponies with regular) and 310 lb-ft of torque. Keep in mind that the CX-9 offers up seating for seven… that’s a generous amount of power for a family hauler.
There’s only one transmission option: a 6-speed automatic that helps control all that power that’s sent to either the front or all wheels, depending on which model you select.
