2020 Mazda CX-5 vs 2020 Jeep Cherokee: Enjoy the road ahead
May 25 2020,

The 2020 Mazda CX-5 is back this year and continues to operate in one of the toughest, most competitive markets in Canada. Compact SUVs are very popular and there are over 15 models offered on the market. That’s an incredible amount of options for consumers and you should have no problem finding the perfect new compact SUV for your needs. Another option available to consumers is the 2020 Jeep Cherokee.
The Cherokee is known for its off-road capability while the Mazda CX-5 is known for being sporty, dynamic, more luxurious inside than your average compact SUV, and more enjoyable to drive overall. Let’s take a look at how both compare.
Plenty of power under the hood in both SUVs
There’s a lot of power under the hood in both these compact SUVs. Indeed, the 2020 Mazda CX-5 and the 2020 Jeep Cherokee both offer some of the most powerful base engines in the segment. That said, the Mazda CX-5’s base engine is a little more powerful than the Cherokee’s, and it is also a lot more fuel-efficient.
The 2020 Mazda CX-5 is powered out of the gate by a 2.5-litre, four-cylinder SKYACTIV engine that delivers 187 horsepower and 186 pound-feet of torque. It’s also offered with an available 2.5-litre turbocharged engine that delivers 310 pound-feet of torque, making it the most powerful engine in the segment and the only to offer over 300 pound-feet of torque.
The Jeep Cherokee gets a 2.4-litre, four-cylinder engine standard that offers 180 horsepower and 171 pound-feet of torque. This engine is powerful but not as powerful as the engine available in the CX-5. More importantly, the Mazda CX-5 averages 9.8 litres per 100 kilometres in the city and 7.9 litres per 100 kilometres on the highway.
The Jeep Cherokee is one of the least fuel-efficient compact SUVs in the segment. It averages 11.2 litres per 100 kilometres in the city and 8.0 litres per 100 kilometres on the highway. Even if you opt for the more powerful turbocharged 2020 CX-5, you will have better efficiency than the base Cherokee’s engine.
The 2020 Mazda CX-5 is also more spacious and more welcoming inside. To learn more about the 2020 Mazda CX-5, give us a call today!
