2020 Mazda CX-9: A premium SUV that speaks to you

Shopping for a new vehicle, no matter what it may be, is a voyage in discovering the differences that lie between each vehicle. From one brand to another, cars and SUVs can “feel” very different. Occasionally, you will land on one that not only feels right but fits with or exceeds all your expectations.

Through Mazda’s extensive Skyactiv technology and experience, the Mazda CX-9 is the large midsize 3-row SUV that generates the greatest sense of wellbeing, and this is no accident. The 2020 Mazda CX-9 is nothing less than a premium vehicle for the masses that delivers a heightened ownership experience.

There’s no mistaking the new Mazda CX-9 as it looks like no other SUV in its segment. In a world of cookie-cutter utility vehicles, the CX-9 is a model of design and beauty. Heavily influenced by our revitalized Kodo design language, the CX-9 doesn’t say “truck”, it speaks of elegance and fluidity. The first impression is unlike any other.

Although vast and capable of seating 6 or 7 passengers, Mazda interior designers have created an environment that is welcoming and intimate. All surfaces and materials are of the utmost quality with fit and finish to match. As with all Mazda products, there’s sense that everything is exactly where it needs to be. Likewise, every occupants will be well cared for thanks to the addition of new second row captain’s chairs. When not in need, a stowed third row reveals nearly 1,100 liters of useable trunk volume.

The standard 2020 Mazda CX-9 GS is loaded with standard infotainment features including a 7-inch screen with Mazda Connect, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. This further enhances the sense that you are in the right place. Moving up the grade ladder adds Nappa leather upholstery, satin chrome-plated switches and genuine Santos Rosewood accents.

What may thrill most is the 2020 Mazda CX-9’s drive. Despite its size and nature, Mazda’s Skyactiv principle of Jinba Ittai, or horse and rider as one, is evident. The standard turbocharged Skyactiv-G 2.5T engine delivers up to 320 lb.-ft. of torque and 250 horsepower when on 93 octane petrol (310 and 227 respectively on 87 octane petrol). Associated with the engine are a six-speed Skyactiv-Drive automatic transmission and Mazda's predictive i-Activ all-wheel drive system.

Further enhancing the sense of being in control as a driver is the addition of an all-new off-road traction assist feature for mild off-roading. Mazda’s sophisticated G-Vectoring Control Plus is also standard for an augmented driving experienced in both comfort and handling when driving on your favorite roads. These elements are on top of the Mazda CX-9's full suite of i-Activsense safety features including Mazda Radar Cruise Control with Stop & Go, Smart City Brake Support with pedestrian detection (forward sensing) and far more.

With this much design, content and the built-in premium feel, it’s a wonder that the 2020 Mazda CX-9 starts at only $40,000.
