2021 Mazda CX-30 vs. 2021 Toyota C-HR: Redefining the Subcompact Segment

The CX-30 is a subcompact crossover that is big on style, performance, technology, and safety. With each model featuring available or standard AWD, it offers more than typical vehicles in this segment. The CX-30 continues to pull far ahead of the competition this model year.

To help you understand how the CX-30 measures up, we compare it to the 2021 Toyota C-HR.

The 2021 Mazda CX-30 is a powertrain experience

The CX-30 offers three powertrains in its model lineup. The GX trim features a 2.0-litre four-cylinder that produces 155 horsepower and 150 lb-ft of torque. One engine is offered in the C-HR series, a 2.0-litre four-cylinder that peaks at 144 horsepower.

The next powertrain in the CX-30 family is a 2.5-litre four-cylinder, standard in the GS and GT. It generates 186 horsepower and 186 lb-ft of torque, taking the CX-30 to yet another level. This could be the most exciting non-turbo in the segment.

The CX-30 has one more powertrain option, and it drives straight to the heart of automotive enthusiasts. A 2.5-litre turbo four-cylinder creates up to 250 horsepower and 320 lb-ft of torque, about 2.5 times the torque of the C-HR. This opens new driving opportunities for subcompact owners.

All-wheel drive is available or standard on each CX-30. The C-HR only offers front-wheel drive, a disadvantage for drivers who want more safety and performance.

Overall, the CX-30 offers a better driving experience than the C-HR.

The 2021 Mazda CX-30 ranks higher in safety and more

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) rates the CX-30 as a 2021 Top Safety Pick+. This outstanding designation is not common for subcompact models and results from excellent vehicle design, safety systems, and more. The C-HR does not measure up to this same level of safety.

Inside, the CX-30 is geared with more room for cargo and passenger comfort. Cargo volume extends to 1,280 litres behind the front seats (rear seats folded), which is nearly 250 more litres than the C-HR.  Rear seat passengers enjoy 116 mm of additional leg room, and you will also have a 116 mm advantage in front shoulder room over the C-HR.

The 2021 Mazda CX-30 is a better vehicle than the C-HR in other ways, too. You can shop for your car online with us. Our representatives are waiting for your call and can answer all your questions.
