2021 Mazda CX-5 vs. 2021 Subaru Forester: The CX-5 Provides Performance and Value

The 2021 CX-5 brings together style, connectivity, and technology in a fun-to-drive SUV. This compact, five-seat vehicle offers two powertrains that open a new world for driving enthusiasts. The CX-5 also adds technologies that read the road and help the CX-5 respond in ways that other vehicles can't. The innovations also transfer into layers of safety that give you a peace of mind at every moment.

To help you with your purchasing decision, we compare the CX-5 to a known competitor, the 2021 Toyota RAV4.

It's less expensive to access the 2021 Mazda CX-5

When both vehicles are placed side-by-side, it becomes obvious the CX-5 has the best styling. The new Mazda approach to design ensures that every model lineup outpaces the competition, and one would think the CX-5 is the most expensive in this comparison. But that’s not the case.

As a matter of fact, it costs thousands less to access the CX-5 than the Forester. The CX-5's $28,500 base model MSRP gives you breathing room to personalize it before considering the base Forester starting at $31,108. And for the price of the base Forester, you are close to entering the CX-5's next level.

The middle and upper grades of both lineups align more closely in price, but let's explore other ways the CX-5 increases its value.

The 2021 Mazda CX-5 has better performance and other value

Six CX-5 models offer two types of powertrains that exceed the power level of the Forester. A 2.5-litre four-cylinder outputs 187 horsepower and 186 lb-ft of torque, and it is standard on the GX, GS, Kuro, and GT (turbo optional). This eclipses the 2.5-litre in the Forester that produces 182 horsepower and 176 lb-ft of torque.

The second CX-5 powertrain is a turbo 2.5-litre that develops up to 250 horsepower and 320 lb-ft of torque. Standard along with AWD on the Signature and 100 Anniversary trims, the MSRP for these models is nearly identical to the cost of the Forester's highest two trim levels.

Whenever you purchase a new CX-5, the Mazda Unlimited Mileage Warranty has no mileage limits for many coverage areas. This includes 3-year New Vehicle, 3-year Roadside Assistance, 5-year Powertrain and 7-year Anti-Perforation warranties. Subaru includes mileage limits.
