2021 Mazda CX-5 vs. 2021 Toyota RAV4: When Refinement Goes Beyond Aesthetics

The 2021 Mazda CX-5 offers maximum versatility and value like a good compact SUV should. However, it provides much more than its rivals in terms of performance and refinement. Its driving dynamics make your day to day commutes safe and efficient for you and your families, but the refinement that these dynamics include also put the fun back into SUV driving.

Here, we compare the 2021 Mazda CX-5 to the 2021 Toyota RAV4.

More power and response with the 2021 Mazda CX-5

The Mazda CX-5 covers a wide variety of needs under the hood. The base engine in the GS, GX, Kuro and GT models is a 2.5-litre four-cylinder engine that generates 187 horsepower and 186 lb-ft of torque. While the RAV4's rival engine has slightly more horsepower, the CX-5's 2.5-litre has better torque. This provides better accelerations and dynamics.

For more power, the CX-5 also features a turbocharged version of its 2.5-litre four-cylinder that develops 250 hp and 320 lb-ft of torque. This powerplant is standard on the Signature and 100th Anniversary Edition and optional on the GT. The RAV4's lineup does not have anything that competes with this powertrain in terms of torque and response.

The Mazda CX-5 uses a six-speed automatic transmission with manual shift mode and a drive selection switch. This transmission provides a more dynamic drive than the RAV4’s eight-speed automatic transmissions or continuously variable transmission.

The 2021 Mazda CX-5 is more refined, inside and out

The Mazda CX-5 provides a refined driving experience that can easily be compared to a luxury SUV. It features advanced G-Vectoring Control that automatically adjusts power distribution under the CX-5 to reduce turning force stresses. The i-Activ All-Wheel Drive system also contributes to better traction around corners and overall stability on all surfaces.

Inside, the CX-5 features more headroom in the front and rear legroom than the RAV4. It’s also more advanced in terms of technology, with a crystal-clear 8-inch standard infotainment screen filled with advanced features. The standard screen on the RAV4 is a smaller, 7-inch unit on most grades.

In the end, the Mazda CX-5 offers better performance, more agility and more refinement than the Toyota RAV4. You can shop for your car online with us. Our representatives are waiting for your call and can answer all your questions.
