Here are the Two Engines Offered in the 2023 Mazda CX-50
June 10 2022,
The 2023 Mazda CX-50 is offered with a choice of two versions of the modern and fuel-efficient 2.5L Skyactiv engine that has already proven its durability in many other Mazda vehicles.
The naturally aspirated version
The standard engine that powers the 2023 Mazda CX-50 is the naturally aspirated version of the 2.5L Skyactiv engine already found in the Mazda 3 and the CX-5. This unit delivers 187 horsepower and 186 lb-ft of torque through the standard 6-speed automatic transmission and i-Activ all-wheel-drive system, which makes the CX-50 more dynamic on dry surfaces and more capable on slippery roads.
This engine makes the CX-50 very fuel-efficient due to its many advanced technologies, such as the cylinder deactivation system that allows it to run on only two cylinders when driving at stabilized speeds. This allows fuel consumption figures as low as 7.9 L/100 km on the highway and 9.7 L/100 km in the city.
The Turbocharged version
The 2023 Mazda CX-50 GT is available with a more powerful version of the same engine which adds a twin-scroll turbocharger to provide a smooth and reactive power delivery at all times, without the lag that is associated with some turbocharged engines. This translates into an output of 256 horsepower and 320 lb-ft of torque when using premium-grade 93 octane fuel. This makes it one of the most powerful engines available in the compact two-row SUV segment and gives the CX-50 a more dynamic driving experience that is expected from a Mazda product.
If premium fuel is not available or simply in order to save money at the pump, regular-grade 87 octane fuel can be used safely since the engine’s computer automatically detects the octane rating of the fuel in the tank and adjusts its parameters to avoid damage. This leads to an output of 227 horsepower and 310 lb-ft of torque.
