Mazda Models Dominate 2024 Safety Ratings

When it comes to vehicle safety, Mazda is in a class of its own. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) has announced the winners of its prestigious 2024 TOP SAFETY PICK and TOP SAFETY PICK+ awards, and Mazda stands out as the brand with the most TOP SAFETY PICK+ winners.

The IIHS awards are among the highest honours for vehicle safety ratings. The TOP SAFETY PICK recognizes vehicles with superior crash protection, while the TOP SAFETY PICK+ takes it a step further, evaluating crash prevention technologies as well, including pedestrian detection capabilities in various lighting conditions.

For the 2024 model year, no fewer than five Mazda vehicles have secured the highest TOP SAFETY PICK+ award. The Mazda3, Mazda3 Sport, CX-30 (with optional front crash prevention tech), CX-50 (built after August 2023), and all-new CX-90 have all met the IIHS's stringent criteria for outstanding front and side impact protection combined with cutting-edge crash avoidance systems.

The plug-in hybrid CX-90 PHEV currently holds the TOP SAFETY PICK award but is expected to soon elevate to the TOP SAFETY PICK+ rating after undergoing additional testing. This consistent excellence across Mazda's lineup showcases their unwavering commitment to safety innovation.

Behind this success is Mazda's focus on multilayered occupant protection through advanced body structures, rear seatbelt pretensioners, load limiters, and sophisticated side impact airbags. But their safety approach goes beyond just safeguarding those inside the vehicle.

"This year's winners are true standouts, offering the highest level of protection for both vehicle occupants and other vulnerable road users," says IIHS President David Harkey.

MCI President and CEO David Klan echoes this sentiment: "The most important thing in our vehicles are the people who drive them, who trust our vehicles to keep them and their families safe. This is our utmost priority, and we challenge ourselves to keep moving the bar higher to continue earning that trust."

Mazda's dedication to continuous safety improvement is reflected in their vehicles exceeding the latest, more rigorous 2024 IIHS criteria for occupant and pedestrian protection. With its focus on robust structures, advanced restraint systems, and innovative crash prevention technologies, Mazda is truly leading the charge in vehicle safety.

Current and prospective Mazda owners can take comfort in knowing they are getting one of the safest vehicles on the road.
