The Differences Between the 2023 Mazda CX-50 and 2023 Mazda CX-5
November 15 2022,
Mazda currently offers two vehicles that seem to be quite similar in concept but are actually more unique than it first appears. Here are the differences between the Mazda CX-5 and the CX-50.
The CX-50 is more adventurous
The 2023 Mazda CX-50 is designed and engineered to be a more adventurous compact SUV that doesn’t fear a bit of off-road driving. This is because it benefits from an increased ground clearance when compared to the CX-5, which is engineered to offer better performances on solid pavement. In addition, the CX-50 is equipped with a large amount of plastic cladding all around its body that are designed to protect the paint and the metal panels from scratches and dents when maneuvering in tight spaces, especially out in the countryside. For the ultimate off-roading experience from Mazda, the CX-50 Meridian can be ordered with the Apex package which adds a rooftop platform, mud flaps and stronger roof bars.
The CX-5 is more spacious
The 2023 Mazda CX-5 is more spacious than the 2023 Mazda CX-50 in many important measurements, which makes it more practical for transporting large amounts of cargo while also making it more comfortable for many drivers. Indeed, the CX-5 benefits from a more generous cabin that has more space in every direction than the CX-50, except in terms of legroom for both front and rear passengers, which is a result of the CX-50 being physically longer than the CX-5. This difference in interior volume also applies to the cargo compartment, but here again, there is a caveat. If looking at the maximum cargo capacity with the rear seats folded, the CX-5 wins the comparison with its 1,679 litres of space, but if only considering the cargo area behind the rear seat, the CX-50 gets slightly ahead with its 889 litres of space.
The CX-5 is more affordable and the CX-50 is more luxurious
The 2023 Mazda CX-5 is offered in six trim levels that make it possible for most customers to find the CX-5 that best fits their budget and their needs. The presence of entry-level models also accounts for a difference of about $7,000 between the base price of the CX-5 and the CX-50, which means that the CX-5 is accessible to more people than the CX-5. On the other hand, the 2023 Mazda CX-50 justifies its higher price by making its three trim levels better equipped than most of the CX-5 lineup, with the mid-level GT version being equipped with many features only found on the top-of-the-line CX-5 Signature.
